Central California’s energy economy is evolving from a traditional base in oil and natural gas into one of the nation’s most diverse energy regions. The region is home to California’s leading oil-producing county and supports an extensive network of energy companies, skilled workers and infrastructure. At the same time, the region’s available land, natural resources and existing energy expertise are driving major investments in solar, wind, renewable fuels, biomass, battery storage, carbon management and clean-energy manufacturing.

As Central California’s population and economy grow, the region will play an increasingly important role in delivering energy that is reliable, affordable and cleaner. New development is focused not only on producing renewable power, but also on strengthening transmission, expanding energy storage, improving efficiency and developing the workforce and supply chains needed to support California’s changing energy system.
